Copper and Mahogany inlaid bookcase
Louis XIV period, circa 1690
H. 78,3 in ; W. 40,1 in ; D. 14,2 in
Opening by two doors, this bookcase is fully inlaid with mahogany – a rarely used wood for this period, all inlaid with a rich copper decor in geometric frames on the front and sides.
This type of decoration traditionally met on black lacquered furniture here is used to meet the copper and wood color, putting another in value.
The windows, locks, key and lock entries in engraved bronze retaining their old gilding are all originals.
