View on the Vesuvius from Sorrento, some fishermen at night in an Italian landscape. Referring the Naples bay’s map, we may propose that this view was taken from the creek of Sorrento, in the south.

The « Grand Tour »
During the 18th and 19th centuries, young men of high society achieves their education by a long journey through Europa, based on the study of Ancient. Main destinations were Netherlands, France, Italy and Greece.
During more than a year, this trip taught their art and history but also life, left to themselves. various paintings, marble inlays or micromosaïques, bronze sculptures from the ancient and other art objects. Different views of Vesuvius in romantic landscapes or dramatic eruption were often brought from Italy through the savings given for their journey.
